Springtime Hair and Beauty Trends

Gold Eyeshadow

Follow Transformers star Megan Fox's lead and add some metallic to your makeup look.  Use a gold eyeliner, such as L'Oreal HiP Color Chrome Eyeliner in Gold Charge ($10), or sweep a gilded shadow across your eyelid.  Try Urban Decay Deluxe Eyeshadow in Honey ($18).

Braids

A girlish braid is surprisingly sophisticated for Prom, just check out Nine actress Kate Hudson's. Part hair on one side, then add a French braid along the hairline on the parted side. You can let your tresses flow or pull them back into a perfectly mussed bun.

Hot Pink Lips

 

Make like Crazy Heart actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and prettify your pout with a hot pink lip color. The color is so fresh and undeniably eye-popping, and there's a shade to suit every skin tone.  Just ask the makeup artist at your favorite cosmetics counter. Maggie used Nars Semi-Matte Lipstick in Schiap ($24).

 

Glowing Skin

 

Use a golden-hued luminizer to achieve Shutter Island star Michelle Williams' gorgeous glow.  You can apply it directly, or mix a little with your foundation. We're fans of Stila All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer ($22).

FIDM Student Interns at TeenPROM Magazine

FIDM opens doors. Student Harmony Viray is well aware. Through the FIDM Career Center, she found out about an internship opportunity at TeenPROM Magazine. "I have always been interested in working for a magazine and my career advisor thought it was a great fit for me!"

Harmony is working on the 2010 issue of TeenPROM. "This is my first time ever working for a magazine, so everything is a learning experience for me. Luckily, I have been able to participate in the many angles of magazine production. I would have never guessed just how many dresses and accessories need to be pulled in order to find the right fit for a story. I've also had exposure to the beauty department, researching the best bargain make-up and picking the perfect body scrub. I have found there are so many aspects to putting a magazine together, including everything from booking models to finding a nail polish for under $2."

Would you believe the prom styles for 2010 have already been created and are beginning to go into production! Harmony is in the know on all the new trends. Here she is swimming in samples called in for shoots.

 

We asked her what the major dress trends are for next year. "For 2010, there are a ton of bold and exotic prints. It's all about color! There is also lots of glitz, so anything metallic or sequined is something to look forward to. My favorite trend is probably the short party dress because it will always call for a fun and flirty night!"

With the internship at TeenPROM, Harmony has been exposed to styling prom dresses as well. "I am loving feather accessories in the hair. Piling on bangles and bracelets can make the outfit more fun. Also, belting dresses makes for a totally different look."

Harmony is majoring in Visual Communications. "I'm learning an array of things--I'm sketching, creating digital imaging, and making marketing proposals. I think the major is broad enough for anyone trying to figure out exactly what they ultimately want to do. I am looking forward to taking Fashion Styling & Coordination because through my internship, I have found I have a huge interest in styling and working on editorial photo shoots."

Just how did Nicole Richie pull of those insanely-sweet-yet-somehow-sophisticated eyes? Simple!  All it took was a little liquid eyeliner and false lashes.  Here's how you can get the same look!  --Angel

1. Apply falsies to the outer corners of your eyes--you can cut strips or buy individuals, like these from Make Up For Ever ($14).  Click here for expert tips on applying lashes.

2. Line your upper lids using a pen-point liquid liner with a felt tip for flawless application.  Start at the inner corner and "draw" a thin, smooth line, getting wider as you move to the outer corners.  Try ck Calvin Klein Electric Edge Liquid Eyeliner Marker Pen ($16).

Brow Power

Eyebrows are in! Take a cue from the stars and leave your eyebrows intact for Prom.  Too much tweezing can result in a sad, shocked, or angry expression on your face -- even if you're perfectly happy!  Leave eyebrows alone so they can grow out, then go to a reputable salon to have them shaped for Prom night.  --Angel
