FIDM Fashion Club has partnered with Caché on our exclusive homecoming trends blog series. Today's topic? Homecoming tips for the best night ever!
Even if football isn’t your thing, everybody loves homecoming. It's the first important dance of the year! Whether it’s a nostalgic return to your alma mater, or a fabulous start to a new school year, we’ve got some tips to help you celebrate in style!
1. Plan Ahead
Don’t be the one who waits until the last minute—everyone will be scrambling to get the last few limos, so better to get ahead of the game and reserve a ride for you and your friends now!
2. Find a Date
Ladies, it’s 2014. Go ahead and ask him.
3. Make Dinner Resies
Chances are you’re going to be a big group, which can make it tough to score a table at the best restaurant in town (and yes, you’ll want to indulge.) Pro tip: If you’re struggling with the decision, book two places early and then cancel one closer to the date. Problem solved.
4. Decide On Your Dream Dress
Homecoming is all about school spirit, but we know it's really all about looking absolutely gorgeous. Depending on how your school gets down, you’ll either want to go with a fun and flirty cocktail dress, or a gown for a formal fête.
5. Style Your Hair
For a classy affair like homecoming, straightened or loosely curled hair is always a win. Or you could try a pretty up-do—it’s unexpected and totally eye-catching.
6. Get Your Pretty On
This fall, pick one over-the-top makeup trend (a hint of metallic, a splashy electric hue) and then keep the rest as subtle as possible. Make sure to match the color palette of your outfit.
Think bold bags and clutches, statement necklaces, stackable bracelets. We’re all about added flash this season: trust us, there’s no such thing as too much.
8. Instagram It!
Party pics are an absolute must. Scout out the perfect spot, preferably one without a crowd (no photo bombs, thank you very much.) Photographers will tell you that there are just a few times during the day where the natural light is most flattering for photos, and late afternoon is one of them.
9. Plan a Pre- and/or After-Party
Talk with your friends about who wants which. Definitely split hosting duties, or you’ll find yourself stressed out and spread too thin.
10. Dance Music
It’s not a party without the perfect playlist. Pop anthems are a must, but try and keep the mix original and eclectic. Try adding some indie disco and throwback hits—you’ll surely be the star DJ.
