Dear Jessica -

A great silhouette for your body type is the full-length empire waist.  It falls to the floor (perfect for girls with height) and the empire waist will give the skirt a lovely fullness, making your frame look fuller.  The Sue Wong Silk Maxi Dress ($368) pictured to the left would be perfect.  

You should also look for dresses with ruffles, tiers, pleating, or draping, all of which will add some dimension and fullness to your frame.  The BCBGMAXAZRIA Strapless Bubble Dress ($260) pictured below has a short hemline to show off your long legs, plus draping all around to give the illusion of curvier hips and rear.

 

And here's a gorgeous Yellow Tiered Evening Gown from Scala ($298) pictured at the right.  It has a column silhouette which elongates, but at the same time the flirty tiers will add some fullness to your shape.

You may have to try several dresses before you find the perfect one but don't fret, every girl, no matter what her body type, goes through this at Prom season. The most important thing is that you get the dress that makes you feel beautiful and confident.

FIDM "Recycle Your Prom Dress" Drive

 

No one does a Prom Dress Drive like FIDM!  The Student Activities department on the L.A. campus held it's first annual "Recycle Your Prom Dress" event throughout the entire month of April, and, as expected, it was a huge success!

Along with generous donations from FIDM students were contributions from FIDM faculty and staff.  "Our FIDM students don't even hesitate when they come to drop off their expensive and memorable gowns," says Kristen Chocek, Student Activities Coordinator for the Los Angeles campus.

Over 40 dresses and gowns were donated, all of them destined to become the dream Prom dress of a lucky student from Roseburg High School in Oregon.  "We hope that the Roseburg High School girls love and cherish their dresses as much as our students did," says Chocek.  "We truly want them to feel beautiful and confident in their new dresses."  --Angel
