Dear Fashion Girl -
I've never really worn dress shoes before but I want to get a pair to wear with my tux for Prom. How do I know which ones to get?
Ryan
Hi Ryan -
First, and most importantly, you want to make sure that you get a pair of dress shoes that match your tux (no mixing black with brown!). After that, choosing a shoe is quite simple. You can select an oxford, which has laces, or a loafer (sometimes called a slip-on), which doesn't. Here are examples of both:
Oxford
Johnston & Murphy 'Emery' Cap Toe Oxford, $165
Kenneth Cole New York 'City Slicker' Slip-On, $145
Whether you get an oxford or a loafer is totally a matter of preference. Make sure you try them on and walk around the store a bit when you go shopping -- you don't want to invest in a pair of dress shoes that are too painful to dance in. Also, have a salesperson fit you because the size you wear in a sneaker may not be the same size you need in a dress shoe. And of course, pick a style that you actually like -- you're paying good money for these shoes after all!
Have an amazing Prom and don't forget to send pictures! --Angel
