Do I have to wear a tie that matches my girlfriend's dress exactly?
Thanks,
Daniel
Great question Daniel! Lots of guys worry about matching their date to a tee, but the point is to complement your date. For example, if your date is dressed in red you can choose a printed tie that has a little red in it. Or you can pick a punchy color to add to her corsage, such as turquoise, and wear that color instead.
Another option is to wear something in the same color family, but not necessarily the exact color of your date's dress. For instance, if she's in a baby blue gown, you can wear a bright cobalt. Again, it doesn't exactly match, but definitely complements.
If your date's dress is printed, pick a color that you like out of the print and wear a tie and/or shirt in that color. Steer clear of also wearing a print, as the two of you will clash.
And if you're still concerned, go with no-fail neutrals like white, tan, black or gray -- they match everything!
Have fun at Homecoming, and thanks for writing! --Angel
