I'm going for a traditional Chinese look for Prom. It will be very unique and hopefully it will stand out!! The problem is I don't have a hair do to go with the dress or accessories, and make up. (Sorry I'm a tomboy!) Have no clue what to do!!!! HELP!!
Please and thank you,
Hi Steph -
I have two very pretty hairstyles that would look great with your traditional Chinese dress. Since you're a self-professed tomboy, it's best to go with a simpler style and let your fabulous dress and gorgeous face get all the attention (plus, these styles are easy enough for anyone to do!)
The first is just a simple chignon, or bun. You can either brush all your hair straight back, or add a side part and sweep the hair back. You want the look to be sleek, so use a spray gel to keep every strand in place. Once you've got all your hair back in a ponytail, use bobby pins to pin your hair into a bun. Check out Natalie Portman's super-sleek chignon on the left. You can even stick chopsticks into the bun as a fun and chic accessory!
The second is simply stick-straight strands. If you've got bangs, even better but no worries if you don't, just part your hair down the middle about an inch or two back. You'll want to get as blunt a look as possible, like Gwyneth Paltrow's (right), so if you have layers you may want to ask your stylist the best way to conceal them. The look you're going for is like a bob (no matter what your length)so you want each strand to look as long as the next and be perfectly straight. Use a flat iron and anti-frizz serum if you're doing your own hair.
Have an amazing Prom, and let us know how your hair turns out! --Angel
