Dear Fashion Girl,
Our Prom theme is Asian and the colors are red, gold, and black. What type of dress should I wear?
- L
Dear L,
Pull the theme into your Prom outfit by going for dresses that have touches of Far East influence (Asian fashion, art, and architecture, for example). You don't have to overdo it - little touches will look stunning!
This dress is not only chic, but the wide belt around the waist looks much like an obi - the Japanese word for the sash worn with traditional kimonos (see picture above).
BCBGMaxAzria Long Strapless Dress ($340)
Here's a dress that's inspired by origami, the ancient Japanese art of folding paper - perfect for your theme! Plus you can choose black or red.
As U Wish Origami Bubble Dress ($64)
Embroidery is an ancient Chinese art that has a heavy influence on fashion. This silk dress has festive beading and sequins, plus beautifully intricate embroidery fit for an Asian princess!
Sean Collection Embroidered Godet Hem Gown ($328)
And this frock has a bit of a yin and yang vibe. Yin and yang is an old Chinese philosophy of two opposing yet complementary aspects of an object--isn't that the perfect description for this dress?!
Mary L. Couture Rhinestone Strapless Gown ($200)

Asian art is another great inspiration resource for your dress shopping. Softly muted colors, floral prints, natural scenes and bird images are among the most popular. Here are two equally fabulous dresses with Asian art-influenced prints. The Foley + Corinna Spring Garden Dress ($418) on the left has a divine garden scene, and the Zimmerman Tainted Flamingo Trapeze Dress ($439) shows a colorful group of birds.
It may take some time before you find the perfect dress, but I know you'll find it! Have a wonderful Prom and send us pictures! --Angel

So inspirational!
