What
kinds of up-dos are in for Prom for really curly hair?
This year, up-dos are getting undone (think messy chignons and piece-y side-swept ponytails) and gorgeous curls are the perfect texture for the season's deeply fabulous styles.
To achieve the look, simply pull your hair into a relaxed ponytail (at the back, crown or side of your head) then start randomly pinning curls to secure them in place. You can pin every last curl to create a chignon, or leave a few curls out, like Vanessa Hudgens. And of course you can spice up the look by pinning flowers, feathers or even netting for a dash of decorative color; or add a rhinestone-covered headband for sparkle!
Take a cue from two of our favorite designers for a dramatic, red carpet-worthy Prom up-do that could rival Hollywood's brightest starlets!
For his Spring 2008 show, Yves Saint Laurent piled curls on top of the models' heads and secured with pins, leaving rockabilly-style bangs to hang over their eyes. This is so simple to do and all you need is hair pins to keep your hair in place. For added flair, pin flowers, feathers, or even netting into your hair for decorative color.
It was all about romance at Philip Lim's Spring 2008 show. Curly-haired models had their tendrils pulled back into a loose ponytail and tucked under at the nape of the neck, with longer layers left out in front.

Let's be honest, asking a girl to Prom is never as easy as it looks on TV. Yes, she might actually say "No," but you'll never know until you try. Here's our handy guide to help you through the rough spots. --Kim
1) Be Straight Up!
Come right out and ask her, "Would you like to go to the Prom with me?" Dropping hints can be confusing for both of you!
2) If You Get A No . . .
Either choose another girl to ask or make other plans with a friend or a group. If she doesn't give you a direct answer (she may be waiting for someone else to ask her), tell her you'll ask her for a final answer in a couple of days. That way you stay in charge and you're not left in limbo!
3) Don't Ask In Front Of Her Friends Or Yours!
This is between you and your prospective date. Besides -- some girls are nicer and easier to talk to when they're away from their friends. Trust us, the best time to ask her is either when you have a private moment together or over the telephone after school.
4) Don't Ask Through A Friend
Asking for a date is hard, that's for sure, and rejection can be cruel, but asking through a friend basically says you have no confidence, which may be a turn off.
5) Asking By Phone
Have a short lead-in conversation first before asking. Jot down a couple of light topics to discuss, such as a homework assignment or an activity you both have in common. But get to the point in less than 5 or so minutes before she gets restless and has to hang-up. It's not going to get any easier, so just do it!
6) Don't Say "Maybe" Or "Probably"
Either you're asking her or you're not. She might get so irritated with you that she won't go even if you make up your mind later on!
7) Don't Wait Until The Last Minute!
If you're only procrastinating out of fear, an earlier, more confident asker might snag the prize! Most girls need at least two weeks notice so they can shop for a dress. If you're in a relationship or it's assumed you are taking a certain someone you should plan on asking a month before the big night.
8) Be Creative!
If it feels right for your personality, you can ask her in an unexpected way! If you live near the beach, spell it out in the sand. Or sing her a song with funny rhyming lyrics. Bring a rose or balloons! Girls love to feel
special, so if you can do that you've probably won half the battle!
